過ぎに近所の公園へ花見に行った。昨日までの寒さのおかげで桜はまだよく残っていた。
桜は日本人にとって特別な花である。美しいとか春を告げるからという理由だけで愛されているのではない。もっと日本人の死生観に深く関わっている。例えばガンなどの重い病気にかかると、来年は桜を見られるだろうかとすぐ思うほどである。

Cherry blossoms are special flowers to Japanese people. They are loved not just because they are beautiful nor because they herald the arrival of spring. They are deeply connected to the Japanese view of life and death.
